Color plays a major part in Interior Designs. It is also a main factor in fashion, makeup, visual design and graphic design. When it comes to transforming a room, the first thing people think of is paint. It is affordable and accessible, yet it is the number one component in achieving a new look. Home improvement stores have given us the opportunity to choose from 1000’s of different options. The best way is to start with selecting neutral colors for your paint. These colors act as canvases or help to accentuate letting everything else shine in a particular room. Light colors create the illusion of open space and dark colors create a cozy, elegant and breathtaking view.

Another great way to add color is by adding tone. Pick a colorful pillow, accent rugs, or a throw. A great design ratio to choose a color palette for a room, is to stick to the 60-30-10 rule.

60% is the rooms dominant color. For example, walls and big furniture pieces.

30% is your secondary color, ex. Rugs and drapes.

10% is décor and accents, ex. pillows and throws.

By following this rule your design will ultimately be cohesive and collected. Don’t be afraid to take risks and add color to your space.
